The Lord desires us to be humble before Him so that He can teach us His ways. Sometimes it requires us to be broken. We have to come to the point where all we can do is look up to God for some help, to be rescued from the messes we have gotten in. In order for our sins to be forgiven by God we must recognize and realize that we are in need of a change…that what we have done or are doing is in opposition with the will of God for our lives. So God requires a contrite spirit. One in which understands that we have sinned and acknowledged we need His help and His forgiveness. This means we are broken down, exposed before God in order for Him to see our innermost being and apply His healing, deliverance to it. There comes a point in our lives when we come to know that we cannot make it through this life without The Lord to be Our Forgiver. He applies grace and mercy all the time and always accepts us when we realize He is our only source of HELP.
Scriptures:
Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. (Psalms 51:7, 10, 12, 17 NLT)
