We all know that cars have what is known as a “reserve” tank. A reserve tank is nestled within the larger gas tank to be used when or if the car is low on gas. The reserve acts as a safety net by which it compensates, that is, provides a cushion for the driver because it gives them a little bit more time to get to the gas station when low on fuel. The reserve tank becomes an anchor, a catalyst of sorts, because without it the car runs the risk of stopping; the engine would lock up. The car is of no use without gas as a key component. Follow me.
It is so important to us, as Christians, to fill up our hearts and minds (faith as a key component) so that when depression surfaces, when fear and strongholds come in to collapse our souls and disrupt peace, the reserve acts as a means of rejuvenation and restoration.
The reserve has faith in it, strength in it, security in it and joy in it. It’s accessible in times of confusion and broken-heartedness. It acts as the connection we need to God, through Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit. It’s accessible. It sustains us and breathes in us again when we needed resuscitation because life’s problems felt like they stopped the oxygen, THE BLOOD flow in my veins.
How do we fill up our Spiritual Reserve?
Through practicing faith through the application of The Word of God. The exercising of faith in dim and dark circumstances, which are presented as what The Bible calls “trials and tribulations.” We need to study God’s Word to nurture our relationship with God and to know our rights and responsibilities as His Children, His chosen generation. It is this daily combination of prayer, praise, worship, and study that fills up our reserve; it’s personal.
The Psalmist, David, said himself that he would have gave up but he saw the miraculous works, the blessings of God manifest for him and others. He saw God show up to provide where there was no hope.
Have you accessed your reserve?
There have been times in my life I depended on my faith in God to carry me through. I had faith and strength I didn’t know I had, in my reserve. I regained a joy of living and a refreshed outlook that God is and was there for me through all life’s journey because I had stored up some faith for hard times, in my Spiritual Reserve.
Spiritual EXPERIENCE: Focus on training your heart and mind in the things of Christ. Study more than you ever studied before, pray more than you have ever prayed before. Today’s Scriptures:
Psalms 27:13-14 GW | God’s Word Translation
“I believe that I will see the goodness of the LORD in this world of the living. Wait with hope for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Yes, wait with hope for the LORD.”
Joshua 1:7-9 CEB | Common English Bible
“Be very brave and strong as you carefully obey all of the Instruction that Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t deviate even a bit from it, either to the right or left. Then you will have success wherever you go. Never stop speaking about this Instruction scroll. Recite it day and night so you can carefully obey everything written in it. Then you will accomplish your objectives and you will succeed. I’ve commanded you to be brave and strong, haven’t I? Don’t be alarmed or terrified, because the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Isaiah 43:1-2, 13 NLT | New Living Translation
“But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
“From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can snatch anyone out of my hand. No one can undo what I have done.”
